2013 Season Wrap Up

The 2013 season proved to be bigger and better than ever. It was also longer than ever, with both the beginning and end of the season blanketed in snow. The season started with racing at the Cedar Lake Arena in March, an amazing new indoor dirt track in New Richmond, Wisconsin. And it didn’t end until late November, again at Cedar Lake Arena, with a big two-day special event paying over $2,000 in prize money.

Drivers traveled to three states and raced at eight different tracks throughout the 35+ race season in 2013. Total purse payouts were just under $10,000 for the season, including a $500 to win feature at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in August. There were over 40 drivers that competed and raced with the Outlaw Mini Mod Series this year, a record setting number that shows growth & interest in the Series continues to accelerate. The rental car program also had a very successful year and has undoubtedly led to increased driver numbers.

The annual awards banquet was once again held at the wonderful Georges in Geneva. This year we added a slide show presentation to the program. This was a great way to look back on the season, and, of course, to provide a few laughs as well! Anthony Kramer was awarded the Most Improved Driver. Canton, South Dakota driver Devon McMartin took home the Sportsmanship award. And 8-year old Jayden Larson was given the Outlaw Mini Mod Series Rookie of the Year award. Great food, fun times, friends, trophies, awards, and prizes. This is always a fun evening, and a way to show thanks to the drivers, crew and families for a great season!

Sticking with the 12 race "Hunt" format to determine our Series points champion provided a great ending to the year. As the "A" main rolled out to take the green flag in the final Hunt race of the season at 56 Speedway, three drivers remained in contention for the Series points title. It was a dramatic finish to a hard fought season.

2013 Final Point Standings

5th place in the points chase with 197 total points was your 2012 Series Champion 'Racin' Jason Christiansen. Jason competed in 13 events, had seven top 5's, and won two features. Jason picked up the biggest win of his career in front of a packed house at the Jackson County Speedway in June. This pocketed him $150 and was sure a race to remember!

4th place and finishing with 237 points, was 8-year old Rookie of the Year Jayden Larson. He competed in 14 regular season events, had seven top 5's, and won two features. Jayden took home a few nice paychecks along the way. His first win was worth $150 and the second was a big win at the Murray County Speedway paying $250! Jayden also won a 3rd feature at the Cedar Lake Arena paying $150 during our Winter Series. This young gun had a great season and we look forward to watching his racing career develop.

3rd place with 243 points went to Scott Johnson. After finishing 5th in points two consecutive years, Scott put together an awesome season and was in reach of the title right up to the very end. He raced in 14 events, and had an amazing TEN top 5 finishes, along with one feature win. Watch for Scott to make a run for the Series Championship again in 2014.

2nd place with 286 points was Ben Sprung. Ben had a great season competing in 16 regular season events along with many early season and Winter Series events at Cedar Lake Arena. He had six top 5's, and 4 big feature wins. Ben picked up a huge win at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in August worth $500. He collected nearly a thousand dollars in total purse money thru out the season. Ben finished fourth in points last year and a close second this year. 2014 might just be the year he takes home his first Series title.

1st place and your 2013 Outlaw Mini Mod Series Champion is Myron "Buzz" Pool. Buzz finished with 297 points, racing in 17 events along the way. And in those 17 races, he was a model of consistency, finishing in the top 5 an astonishing 13 out of 17 times, while also picking up 4 feature wins! But even with those amazing stats, it still came down to the wire on the final night, in the final race . . . the moral of the story being that every single race and every point is critically important when chasing a season championship. Buzz was extremely relieved when the checkered flag waved at that last race and he had secured his first championship. Congratulations Mr. Pool, you definitely earned it! Buzz also won the drawing for the free 2014 Outlaw Mini Mod Chassis that is awarded at the banquet. This is an annual drawing from the top 5 points finishers each season. Look for Buzz in his brand new car as he tries to defend his title in 2014.

Congratulations and thanks go out to ALL the competitors who raced with the Series during the 2013 season! The 2014 season is already coming together with even more exciting racing being planned at new tracks, with more payouts, brand new sponsors, and potentially the largest points fund in Outlaw Mini Mod Series history! Look for all the details soon, until then, enjoy the off season. We will see you in 2014 for more Fast, Affordable, and FUN Racing!!
